BGSC Coaching Staff 2007 - 2008 Head Coach, Carolyn Strunk Carolyn grew up in Pittsburgh, PA (an avid Steeler fan long before the 'Big Ben' era!! She swam for Montour High School and the Chartiers Valley Swim Club. After graduating from The College of Wooster in 1990, she continued coaching there for two years. She moved to Bowling Green to be the Assistant Swimming Coach for the BGSU men's and women's teams in August 1992. In August 1995, she went back to school at BGSU, earning a 2nd teaching certificate and began coaching with the Gators. In August 1997, she was promoted to Head Coach. Carolyn is married and has two children (CJ and Maggie). Office Hours (Subject to change based on babysitting schedule for Maggie): Monday - 9-10am; 1:30-2:45pm; Tuesday - 9-10am; 1:30-2:45pm; Wednesday - 10:30-11:30am; 1:30-2:45pm; Thursday - 9-10am; 1:30-2:45pm; Friday - 9-10am; 1:30-2:45pm. Or by Appointment (spring/summer) Senior Coach (High School), Gary Layne Gary has been with BGSC since the year round program began in the fall of 1982. He grew up in Findlay, Ohio where he began his swimming career. After being discharged from the Navy, he attended George Williams College and then returned to Northwest Ohio where his coaching career began. Gary is married and has two children (CJ and Maggie). Parents/swimmers needing to contact Gary: The best way to reach him is via email any time of the day. Head Age Group Coach, Josh Willer Josh started swimming at age 4 in summer leagues and YMCA tournaments. He swam competitively all 4 years of high school. Walked on to the Ball State University Men's Swim Team. He is a BSU school record holder, and was a team captain. Following graduation, he started a small business and a USA swim team in Indiana. In August 2006 moved to Northwest Ohio and was the Head Coach for the Fort Meigs Stingrays and an Assistant Coach for Perrysburg High School. In June of 2007 he started with the Gators!! Or by Appointment (spring/summer) Diving Coach, Dave Anderson Dave is originally from Findlay, Ohio and is a graduate of BGSU. He has been working with the Diving Gators since the fall of 2003. Assistant Coach 12 & unders/Masters, Abby Stewart Abby is a senior at BGSU, graduating in May 2008. She is beginning her fourth season with BGSC and has enjoyed every moment of it. She started competitive swimming at age 5 when she swam for her neighborhood swim team, the Pinegate Gators, for 10 years, followed by 2 years of assistant coaching. Abby swam varsity for 4 years at Mentor High School where she made it to districts in the 500 free her senior year. She also enjoyed coaching along side her sister Beth (former BGSC coach) for the Wembley Country Club for a summer. She enjoys swimming and seeing swimmers improve not only physically but mentally as well and hopes that the success continues! Assistant Coach, 8 & unders, Brit O'Connor Brit graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 2003. She was a BGSC Gator the summer of 2003. In high school, Brit was a 3 year state qualifier, also making it on the awards podium. After high school, Brit came to BGSU and swam from 2003-2007 (red-shirting one year). Brit graduated in May 2007 from BGSU and is now working towards her masters' degree and swimming one more season for the Falcons! Assistant Coach, Jr High/12 & unders, Jason Cobb Jason is from Centerville, Ohio. He swam competitively for eight years with the Washington Township Rec Center as well as Centerville High School. Jason still holds the Ohio LSC records and JO meet records in the 13-14 boys in the 50, 100, and 200 frees. He also has the 15-16 boys 50 free Ohio LSC record. Jason is beginning his 3rd year coaching with BGSC. Assistant Coach, novice, Kayla Matanick Kayla has been swimming for approximately 10 years. She began with lessons at the Y. Currently, she is beginning her major in the education department at BGSU and has had various teaching positions over the past three years. Assistant Coach, Masters, Kyle Womack Kyle has been with the Gators since she began swimming at age 4. A graduate of BG High School, Kyle made the HS State meet individually her senior year in the 200 IM. Kyle is in her 2nd year as a masters coach. She is an education major at BGSU. |
